On June 21, 2006 I married the beautiful and talented Rosemarie Hughes, to become a Hughes-Croucher. My wonderful wife is a photographer. Her site is Photo Relativity.
After finishing my stint at the University of Sunderland I graduated with a 1st Class Honours degree in Computing, and was awarded best Software Engineer of 2005. After a stint working for 24-7 MusicShop as a 'Systems Integration Manager', I now work for Yahoo! in Europe. I work on the front end code for the front pages of Europe. So while I am now a one trick (or page) pony, I do look after million upon millions of users. Neato!
Netalley Networks LLP has pretty much wrapped up. We did some good work for some presitgious clients though, so it was fun while it lasted. Working with Michael Zeltner and Joe Geldart and Alma Ong from Clear Noodle studios, we created a web site for Nasa's Jet Propulsion labs. When JPL sent their explorer robot 'Spirit' to Mars, they also released the software which powers it back on earth, Maestro. We produced a site which provides Maestro to the public and a community site for news and discussion. Netalley Networks has also done work for the University of Wales, College of Medicine. However as much as I have enjoyed the challenges working on real world project has provided I have currently put my role in the company on hold to concentrate on my studies.
In 2004 the University made a press release about my activities at W3C within the WAI. This caused a couple of local newspapers to write stories on me. So for friends of my mother, who is oh so proud, here they are.
Musically the Hip Hop influence is still in there in a big way, but my friend Andy Martin has rekindled my interest in Drum & Bass. Hip Hop wise it has been Missy, Ludacris and as always Outkasts. I really love Outkast's song "The whole world", enough in fact that I bought the greatest hits even though I already own all their albums. It was just to get the three new songs, oh well. D & B is on some chilled stuff, 4 Hero and Dillenger mainly, since we all know that Jazzy D & B is just mint!
I thought I would put together a quick list of "shimmer" things that I have seen around and about because of my online nickname, which is sh1mmer for those of you who don't know.
