National Express Trains were very refreshing

The trains were essentially exactly the same as the GNER service, except they have uglier branding. However the Wifi is free to everyone, not just first class. Given that it cost my wife and I only £20 more to travel by train than the cheapest of the cheap (Megabus) I am very pleased. Half the time and with near flawless internet for the trip. Well done National Express!

And, yes, I know National Express also run Megabus.

I also took a National Express train today, and completely missed that fact, dagnammit. My theory is that GNER were scalping the entire line so hard that their profit margins couldn’t go up any higher, and once they noticed that people would rather take the megabus than go by rail, they gave up the contract.

“And, yes, I know National Express also run Megabus”. Oh no they don’t! Stagecoach own and run megabus. National Express have no involvement whatsover in megabus. However, the reverse is not true - Stagecoach operate some routes for National Express using National Express branded coaches.

Thanks, Malcolm. Way to egg my own face :) I blame their nondescript branding.
