Recruiters piss me off

Posted by sh1mmer on Mar 2, 2007 in General |

Hi «candidate_basic_first_name»,

Hope all is well!

I have a new mobile games testing role and wondered if you were interested, I have attached some details on the role

If you would like more information on the role or are interested in putting your name forward then please feel free to e-mail or call me back on 020 7877 3354 (experience is not essential so don’t be shy!)

If you are not interested in games testing but are interested in a different role in the games industry such as a programmer, artist, animator, designer etc then get in contact with me as I also have many other vacancies with the biggest games companies up and down the UK and am sure I can accommodate you

If you are an artist or animator then please send me your examples/showreels (without any contact details) or if you are a programmer a demo would be excellent

You can sign up to www.yousendit.com in order to e-mail files up to 100MB, its free and a very useful tool

If you have received this e-mail in error then I apologise in advance, please let me know and I will remove you from my mailing list

I look forward to hearing from you!

Kind regards

I replied with some simple advice:

  1. Learn to use mail merge
  2. Only mail people who’s monster CVs have been updated in the last 6 months
  3. Maybe pick people who are even slightly relevant to the job you are trying to fill

Obviously posting this I realise it may constitute a breach of civil or criminal law, but I’m going to risk it.

Update: James replied:

  1. Although you would think otherwise due to the mistake with the name I have been using mail merges for many years so I can assure you I don’t need to learn!
  2. I am far too busy to mess around with when people updated their CV’s, I get a job, tell people about it, if they are interested they go to the interview, they get the job, great, deal done, they don’t get offered the job, not a problem on with the next one

Anyway, have a great weekend!

Jamie Da Costa

Surprisingly polite. However, a guy that has no time to check how old CVs are is a guy that doesn’t him time to hire the right people.
