A while ago the excellent Simon Willison linked to the No-WWW campaign. It’s been on my to-do list, but no more, it is complete.
The gist is that www.domain is redundant as all Web traffic already uses HTTP already. Since no other protocols (mail, FTP¹) insist on a specific sub-domain the Web shouldn’t either.
Implementation is pretty […]

My baby has been a bit sick recently. So last night I thought I would treat her to a nice long massage. I used to do it all the time, and I still do it sometimes. But, spending an hour taking care of no-one but her gave me back something I’d momentarily forgotten.
Last night, I […]

There is the old adage Write what you know. While on a blog it’s easiest and obvious to write about ideas or topics you know intimately, it may not be best for you or your reader.
The problem is Write what you know is not such a big jump “Read what you know”. I’m pretty liberal, […]

The delightful Meri Williams started the Make Me a Speaker project a little while ago. It’s good to see it’s ticking along. There are now several events listed on the Wiki which are looking for speakers. It’s nice to see a number from the North of the UK especially. Although I’d like to see more […]

The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) posted about AppFresh today. It helps automate the process of updating apps that don’t have auto-update installed (or updating ones you haven’t run recently).
I have around 300 apps in my apps folder plus 30 something pref panes. While I don’t claim to use all these things constantly I have been […]

Flame wars get out of hand, sure. I have a slightly twisted sense of humour sometimes, that’s ok. But, making personal attacks on a person, even when you say it’s in the name of humour, is not ok. Kathy explains why.
I hope Kathy calls the police, I hope the ISPs pull the plugs, and I […]

Now I am back from the North country I am going to proceed to populate last week’s posts. Rather than deluge the feed with a heap all in one go I’m going to try and spread them out a bit. So expect random postings from last week to pop-up as I finish writing up each […]

So today the wife and I are off to the Lake District on holiday. No laptops are allowed. I still plan to ‘blog’ daily. I don’t know how many posts will get moblogged but there will be material when I get back in around a week.
Ciao.

Number 10 has issued a response to the petition to make government sites more accessible (or at least comply with WCAG 1.0). In typical political fashion it’s vague, skips the point and talks about stuff that has already failed as if it’s working. It’s a bit like Prime Minister’s question time then.
I’d like to see […]

One of my daily (or as frequently as Onstad bothers) comics is Achewood. Recently links have been appearing to “Transcribe this comic”.
These are links to a new service called Oh no Robot by Ryan North of Dinosaur Comics¹ fame. It allows web comics to ask their users to transcribe their comics.
The main reasons cited are […]

So I have this enduring relationship with myself. I’m pretty frikkin’ awesome, at least I think so. However it’s sometimes good to hear how much everyone else likes me too…
With that in mind I’ve been using Technorati to gather the “buzz” about myself for a while. To see which bits of my writing engage the […]

The software I use to edit my blog, Marsedit has been under new management for a while. Ranchero who makeNewsgator who own the excellent NetNewsWire sold it off to Red Sweater. However, it seems to be going really well!
Since the ‘takeover’ there have been a promising number of minor updates and the new developer Daniel […]

Gareth posted an update to the community Werewolf cards project this week. I love the idea because it allows any group which has photos on Flickr to turn them into Werewolf Moo card decks.
That said, I’m still kinda hopeful that someone will photoshop some up too. Not that Mr. Keith needs much help.

Desert Skies has a post about the new GW Micro Blog. I met Doug recently at an internal Yahoo! developer conference. It’s really great to see an Assistive Technology vendor take steps to engage with the community. Doug is a really great guy and it’s going to be really interesting to keep an eye on […]

In case anyone is wondering what happened I wrote a whole lot on my trip to San Francisco / Sunnyvale, however I worked a whole lot to.
While I am pleased I did find some time to write I didn’t find the time to clean-up and post properly. So I didn’t. Now, on the plane back […]

So I’m flying east today. That means I loose 8 hours. I start at 4 in the afternoon on Saturday, and arrive at 10 in the morning on Sunday but I travel for 10 hours.
Beating out jet-lag is possible two ways, either not sleeping and catching Zzzs at night British time, or getting making […]

Wow! Let me say that again. Wow. Tonight we went to what was possibly the best veganista¹ restaurant I’ve ever been too.
The Millennium Restaurant is an entirely vegan restaurant in the Hotel California on Geary Street in San Francisco. It was interesting, I had read great reviews about it, but heard mixed comments from friends.

Wow, what a busy week. Today we had the first day of an internal conference at Yahoo! about Front-end engineering or as they say in internal acroynization F2E.
There are two things that I notice in particular:
We have so many really really smart people at Y!
We are in a great position to offer accessibility training
While the […]
